Memories of going to Ipperwash three summers as a cadet and in the Grey and Simcoe Foresters... for two weeks up to Ipperwash we went to London's Wolsley Barracks.. now 40 years later my eldest just turned 18 and is going to leave home for Fanshaw College in London and will be with the RCR reg. at Wolsley Barracks... we had the world at our feet and we were diving in head first... wishes...
Got an email from Gary Sleeth a few weeks back. Another voice from the past. And talk to Bill Crosson and Bill Kelman regularly. Don Paterson is alive and well and retired as a full colonel in the Austrailian Army... I semi retired last year and am working on the occassional contract as a project manager. Looking forward to moving to Manitoulin Island when Daniel leaves home.. he is now going into grade 10... Next summer planning to ride my bike (Honda VTX1300) to the stampede and maybe over the rockies and back.. sides that.. same old same old

I was surfing Facebook a couple of weeks ago and came across a familiar name  Ron Nash, and thought that I would send a message to see if it was the same person I knew back at BBCI and sure enough he e-mailed back to say he was. This site  is also so great with keeping up on the news of old friends.

Doug - thanks for the BBCI Radio 60's. You're the man.

I was up half the night when I found that. So many memories... some of them rather blurry, but it was rather blurry when they took place too. I saw Hendrix in Toronto in 69 - now there's a sort-of memory.

Hi,
I ran into an old friend on face book  (yes still a good place for finding old school friends) and he told me about this site.  We lived on base from 1963 - 1966 attended Barker Public living at 16 Maple Drive West.  Then we moved to CFB Trenton. I now live in Mississauga. Would like to know  if anyone has heard from Peter Getty, Vicki Geraux, Wanda Porter. Take care P.S. Did Mr. Lindsay drive a Model T or was that just my memory playing tricks on me? :)

I was in Borden from 69-73 at Alexander Dunn for Grade 7-8 and at BBCI for Grades 9-10.  I am interested in connecting with old friends and finding out about any future reunions.  I am happy to hear from anyone who actually remembers me.

I am in Ottawa working for the National Research Council, married 27 years, no kids, 4 cats.

Just reading through the memories and looking at the pictures of the reunion (which i missed ...on my birthday too!!).  It sounds like there are a lot of former BBCI people out here in beautiful Victoria, BC.  I have lived here since 1979 and have only bumped into one of you.  Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me and my tacky burgundy Viva Vauxhall.  I often think of the Malte Shoppe and all of the nights we spent playing pinball, dancing and.......

Garry Boos will be out here July 27-Aug. 8 if anyone wants to connect with him.  Thanks for the tip a couple of years ago, Donna!

Really Excellent Site.  Nice ot read the names and remember.

I was in Camp Borden from 69-75, at Barker for Grade 8 and BBCI through Grade 13.  Took 3 maths, 3 sciences and went into RMC for engineering an now have a Masters.  Who knew all those late nights at the RoachHaven inhaling that sweet smelling smo#$ would allow me to go back home at midnight and do calculus for an hour.  Calculating the distance bewteen two atoms and figuring out the meaning of  life and time while being wrecked and staring the beer pit fires was an awesome experience.  Great memories of McConney, Drury, et al.

Cheryl Blakeney, Yvonne LaPlante, Emily Thomson, Tracy McReynolds, Beth Kane, May Hansen, Boddy Douglas, Kim Stevens, Marc and Dan Royer, Glen MIller, Tony Thomson and Wes Burnell - Boxing, Beer PIts (there were many sites), Pat Rudkins and Carley Dunning, Billy Costello, Wayne Iverson, Daryl and Cheryl Calendar, Rick Pommells, and a million other really cool names.

I'm in Ottawa, as a Business and Contracts Manager for a federal government laboratory, happily married for 26 years, 3 great kids (youngest) is 17 now.

I would really like to go to one of these reunions.  Borden area would be appropriate.  (sandydavidson@rogers.com)

I went to Barker Public school and was wondering if there is a site for that school to hook up with old friends.

I attended BBCI from 71-75.  Dad posted to Ottawa at the end of Grade 12.  What a bummer!!  Best years of my life just the same.

I'm trying to reconnect with some girls base ball players as the coach and wife (Francis and Jean Labelle) will be visiting me in Ottawa at the end of July 08.  I would love to surprise them with a BBQ/reunion of former team mates.  Any one that knows any of the girls, please contact me.

Some of the names that I can remember would be Joni Camponi (3rd base), Cheryl Bastarache (Catcher), Barb Rockie (Center field), Liz Flesh, Maureen Long, Agnes (cannot remember last name), Darlene Finlay............

What a team, what a time!!!!!

I would love to participate in the next reunion and would prefer that it be in the Borden area.

Hello Everyone, found this wonderful place through Tom Milligan and Susan Hetherington. Have met up with Paul Short, and Tom Dean (had pleasure of a round of gold with him and Ron/Dino a few years ago in PEI).
I think Manny Munro lives here in Fredericton also. I heard a little girl on radio one morning wishing a happy B'day to her grampy Manny Munro-Can' be too many with same name.
Like most of you i was never from a home town, so sort of adopted Borden as mine. Great memories when i see all your names again.
I look forward to checking in now and then to hear how you are doing.

Hi everyone, I was looking at an old year book, Camp-Us 1966 to be exact and I was in class 12A, Mr MacIntryre was our teacher.. The class report was written by Joy Acton. I was on the senior volleyball team with Mrs Aikens as our coach, in the campus club with Mr Lightfoot and Mr tolchard as the teachers, the pep club with Gwen Edwards as president, cheerleader with Joy Acton as captain and teachers Mrs Richardson and Miss Burns. Here is a poem published in the year book showing what occupied our minds in 66
Marijuana Fantasia
come all ye brothers!
Blow out your minds
Now drag, puff or inhale, deep man deep!
Now come all ye brothers, you're getting your fix.
And after you get it, you'll cut out, for kicks.
The earth is clear, our minds are untouched.
We sit, we smoke, the pot is too much!
The platters are spinning, the beat is just it.
The sound from the speakers is way out of sight.
The room it is covered from ceiling to floor,
And the smoke rushes out when you open the door.
Unknown author, wonder why?
Anyone want to let us know who wrote that piece of poetry? I amazed that it was put into the yearbook. Hope you all enjoy some way back way back, those were great years at BBCI

Attended BBCI 1967-1969 Commercial class
Wow, what a site - I just recently rejoined classmates.com, saw a reference to a possible reunion in 2010, googled BBCI reunion and here I am.  I have been on the computer for hours it seems, just reading everyone's comments.  Lots of names I know.  Wasn't part of the social life at BBCI as I had an off-base boyfriend at the time.  Did marry him, but divorced fairly quickly.  I worked most of the school dances as I managed the School Snack Bar for 68/69 along with Pat Gilbert , Marlene Preston and John Yen.

Lived in Barrieand now live in Wasaga Beach since 1982.  The Borden years were a lot of fun and I have fond memories.  I did not hear about the 2005 reunion  but I did attend an earlier one.  At that time got together with Mo Merril, Deb& Connie Colson and Tim Skinner, to mention just a few.   This is great and will continue to check in on the site to see who else pops in.

I have spent most of this day roaming your website. Wonderful to read mny of the post even when not know those who wrote them. Memories flash. I attended BBCI in the days it was know as "Camp Borden High School. I am an Army Brat. What this means is that most of us lived a nomadic type of life, moving every couple of years, never developing roots.  I moved several times while growing up, most;y between Borden and Petawawa. My memory has me making many friends over the years.
I was in Borden from the early fifties until just after my 15th birthday in 1959. I only attended the High School for one year, Grade 9 but remember it well. Mr. Lightfoot was one of the teachers I remember and the Economics teacher, can’t remember his name but remember his hobby was bird watching.
I know it has been a number of years but I still remember some of the names....wonder if you remember me

Looks like I might be on TV again. Unless I ended up on the cutting room floor. Oh ya, they don't use film anymore do they! We conducted centrifuge training for Ed Robertson of the Bare Naked Ladies and it's being shown on Wed 6 Feb at 8 PM on the Outdoor Life Network. I suspect my old ugly face will be there as I gave some of the training to Ed. He was quite the character and a lot of fun to run through the fuge. Now I here we may get Rick Mercer sometime in the future. That should be a hoot.
Like Donna, I'd like to wish everyone a great 08 and hope to see many of you at the 2010 reunion.

attended BBCi fpr grade 9 only. Saw my picture in one of  year books that have been posted. Could not believe I looked like that. Oh my!! what were my parents thinklng.  We were not the most popular family on base as my father was atttached to the, bad word coming (The NAVY). However I have fond memories. 25 cent movies, running track and field and Louis was there at the finish line with a lit cigarette for the winner, attending the dances on Friday (I think) where Steve'S (I could be wrong on the name) band played, ( I heard he has since passed away) ; watching Dale Mason skate to her heart's content, in hopes of making the Olympics,. A lot pf good memories. Wheni lived there, one of our neighbors was the Leasks. Behind us was the Briards (sic) Wayne and Cheryl) Across the street was the Greeen(sorry cannot remember the rest of their name). At one time my mother was involved with the guides along woth Beth Storey's mom. I was a memeber of the folk group, when we were't singing,we were playing euchre. It's amazing, as I write this, a lot of memories are flooding back, gee I wish I could type fast enough or better yet  talk, which I am very good at.

Been employed for 30 years with the Feds, Hope to retire within 4 years and want to be at the reunion

I went to BBCI for the better part of two years, 1972-73 (I think). My older sister (Christine) hung out with a lot of people whose names I recognize here. I broke Eric Tuckey's (sp?) heart (made him cry) and Gary, April, Cheryl Bastarache were my neighbours as were Carmen Parent and Dave Sulley. Interestingly, I can't find myself in the yearbooks posted but 1972 is missing so I'm probably in there. Funny finding this place!

I was just trolling looking for BBCI and found this site on the first hit! I have scrolled through and found many familiar names and have been smiling for the past 1/2 hour as I read everyone's messages.  Base Borden holds wonderful memories for me.  Good friends, lots of laughs.  We did a lot of growing up on that base from Frederick Campbell Public School, Wasaga Beach bonfires, Circle W horseback riding and Camp Borden Highschool, as it was called when I started there.  Funny to find this site after I just found an old picture on Wasaga Beach with old friends.  Give me a shout if anyone remembers me!  I have been looking for Heather MacRae for years, anyone know what happened to her? Cheers Everyone.

Joel and Randy knew each other in grade 9.  I think they were in the same class.  There was a bunch of them...Wayne McLeod and Doug Lesoway are a couple of the other guys in the crowd.  I don't think Joel has been in touch with any of them since high school, but  I did notice that Wayne Arsenault had mentioned Randy a few times.  They were probably better friends.  Wayne is on this site.  I knew Randy's younger brother Mickey.  We were in the same classes.  Hope this helps.

I look at Borden every week on Google Earth.  All of the houses on the Air Force side have been pulled down and all of the H-Huts at the NBCW school look as if they have been demolished.   It is sad to come back to an empty field after so many fine times and memories.

Does anybody remember some of the teachers at the school, I had:
Mr. Buckland:  French 10
Mr. Ralph Collie:  Science 10
Mr. Swartz:  Math 10
Mrs. Langdale (Wow): Typing
Mrs. Richardson:   English
Mr. Naftel: Shop
Mr. Ellis: Gym & Health

I attended BBCI from 1981-1985. Also went to Frederick Campbell and Alexander Dunn for gr.6, 7 and 8. Went to the BBCI reunion in 1990? Don't know how I missed the one in 2005 considering I've been living in Innisfil since 1999. I'm still in touch with a few people from BBCI. Annick Duffy (Gaumont) in Newmarket, Nick Fournier is my stepbrother in Edmonton, Blake my brother is around here too. Be sure to add me to your contact list and let me know about the reunion. I'll definitely be there.

Donna, your site is amazing! I'm totally enjoying the pictures, notes and bios. I was at BBCI from 67-71..and was Freshie Queen with Doug Faulkner in grade 9...and there, the similarities end! My life has been a 'yawn" in comparison. Something interesting...,my mother recently met Mr Drury (my grade 9 homeroom teacher) at a party. Spookily (is that a word?) he seemed to know all about us 'Drevers' and what we've been up to??? Anyway, this is kinda fun...I'd like to hear from Terry (bad ass) Melnick and Donna Gould(?) could be a wrong spelling for Donna. So sorry to hear about Karl!

Hmmm.. I believe I attended from '72-75 before heading off to Georgian College. I recognize quite a few names here and will be in touch. Dave Spurr via Percy Cottreau got me directed here - wow.. does that bring back memories! Anyway, I'm now a professional photographer (remember... I was the yearbook photographer in '75) and loving what I'm doing. You can check out my website at www.mgphotography.com.

Hi everyone. My family and I lived on Moro Loop from 1965 to 1974, but I was the only one of us to attend BBCI-1970 to 1974. My favourite teachers were Mr. Hunter and Mrs. Doyle. I still have some ceramic art from Mr. Hunter's class that has survived countless moves over more than 30 years. Unfortunately I have very few surviving pictures from that time. I wore thick glasses then and I wasn't too fond of having my picture taken. I stayed in the Barrie area until 1990 when my husband and I moved to Toronto where we still reside. Thanks Donna for letting me know about this site. You've done a fantastic job. I'm looking forward to hearing from my classmates and will definitely be at the 2010 reunion. I'm also on Facebook and Classmates.

I was in Borden this past week to have a look at the "new" military museum. I had packed my bicycle and spent a few hours cycling around all the old haunts and neighborhoods. I was surprised to see that the "air force side" PMQ's are completely demolished. Nothing remains but the old roads and fire hydrants sticking up through the brush. The old Billy Barker Public School building is still standing, though (that was the only landmark available for me to find my old street, School Street). Swung by the air force side golf course where I used to pay $15 dues for the season, and the Rod and Gun Club pond where the annual youth membership was 25 cents.

Hi everyone, wow I do feel old after looking at this site. I lived in "Camp" Borden forever, from probably 1954-1966, I lived on 8th street on the "army side" which then changed at some point to Imjim street, my Dad was a career soldier and although all my friends got posted away I always remained in Camp Borden, it was my childhood and my teen years and I loved it, best time of my life!!!!!! I went to the other schools on the base, frederick campbell and alexander dunn. I went into nursing at royal vic in Barrie and to this day I am still a nurse, a mother and grandmother, great site, I actually have a yearbook from 1966, grad year and will figure out how to get the pics on here. I was a cheerleader, go rebels go, on the senior volleyball team , campus club and in 66 was in class 12a, I would love to attend a reunion even if I am the oldest one there!!!!! I am so happy to have found this site as I was looking for something else regarding my parents, who by the way are still alive and kicking at 86 and 82, guess the army life is a good one. I am happily married and a mother of 2 , stepmother of 2 and grandma of 3. I will look forward a reunion, cheers Dorothy

I attended BBCI - Grade 13 in 74-75. Although it all started at Fredrick Cambell Public School from kindegarden to grade 6, then onto Alexander Dunn for grade 7, then we were posted to Quebec... Ended up back in Borden for the big finish...Grade 13 where I bombed out, but that’s ok. Met Mark V. (Mikes younger brother) that year and he talked about Graphic Design... What a ride. Went to St. Lawrence College in Kingston one year later for a three year course...the rest is ancient history. I remember playing hockey with Frank Morgan in the 60’s (Maple Leafs) house league PeeWees. And Derek Shmuck on Victor Rands rink in the field behind his house on Arras Road. Would love to hear about an upcoming reunion... I would also love to hear from people in the Grade 13 class from 74/75.

Hi All. I was a real geek in high school. I thought I was a photographer back then. I was the president of the camera club and RSM of the cadet corp. I had a serious head injury years ago and it affected my memory that is why my long time memory is a bit schety and I am sticking to that story it is not age. I have been married for 34 years and have two wonderful children. I am still a photographer I worked for the largest commercial photographery studio for over 30 years and am now starting my own studio. It was great to find this site.

Strange to be heading off on my own for the first time in a long time. My 19 year old son is travelling (in New Zealand) right now and Zoey (16) is in Cordobe, Spain on an exhange. Hello everyone, I have discovered a site called Facebook through my children. Though it began as a college community it has now spread and is seeping into the older adults territory slowly. It is a great way to share pictures and talk. It even has a group for over 50's which I have joined. So far I know Valerie Parker, Jim Kendricks and Dwight Darnely have joined on. I invite you all to get on it and there is a group for people who have or do live on CFB Borden.

I was in Borden 64 - 71. Moved to Chilliwack where Dad retired. Married, one daughter, divorced and remarried to an amazing fella. Moved up to the BC Interior before returning to Chwk in 92. Our daughter has 3 mini-munchkins, our son is soon to be married in Chwk. So many memories of Borden. Sad to hear that so much is being torn down. I had 4 brothers. Ed (in Vancouver) Rob (Bobby) passed in 1982, Steve (passed in 2003) and Murray (living out of country). I saw a Satellite shot of Borden done a couple of years ago. Wow, Sangro Loop is still there! Showed Murray's kids, they were amazed.
