Neil Dimond and the Monkeys of our era (1966) sang,
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.
Well it can be true and is true even 40 years later. Gail Polak and I met in September 1968 and dated for just over a year. We went our separate ways and although our paths crossed many times over the past 40 years, we never actually met again. Two years ago, through this BBCI site, we reconnected and started e-mailing and keeping in touch.
This year we managed to get together in person and established a rapport that seemed to transcend time. It was like we were never apart. It felt so comfortable and easy that we decided to make it a permanent relationship and I asked Gail to marry me.
And, she said yes.
Now I am sure that you are aware that Gail lives in Victoria, BC and I am in New Zealand which makes the logistics both interesting and challenging, especially as I have taken an assignment in the Netherlands for a year.
It seems that the loves and dreams of our youth can come true, sometimes it just takes time. In this case, only 40 years.
